The Early Learning Profile
A learning assessment for children aged 5 to 11 — completed by you, not sat by your child. Around seven minutes of questions about what you see day to day, so tutoring starts from how your child actually learns.

No test for your child to sit
At primary age, the most useful thing to understand is not exam technique — it is how a child engages with learning: what holds their attention, what they do when something is hard, when they ask for help, and how they bounce back from getting things wrong. A five-year-old should not sit an assessment to tell us that.
So the Early Learning Profile asks you instead. You answer a short questionnaire about what you have noticed at home and around schoolwork. There are no right or wrong answers, “not sure” is always an allowed answer, and your child never sees a score.
What it looks at
How they engage
Curiosity and engagement, persistence when something is difficult, confidence and self-belief, and how they manage frustration and moving between activities. The habits that decide whether learning feels exciting or threatening.
How they work
Attention and focus, following instructions and holding information in mind, working independently and asking for help well, and explaining their own thinking. The foundations that every later school skill is built on.
Eight areas in all, each observed through everyday moments rather than test questions. The wording adapts to your child’s age — one version for ages 5 to 7, another for 8 to 11 — and a handful of open questions let you tell us, in your own words, what has gone well recently, what has been hard, and what helps when they are struggling.
A profile, and a playbook
Your answers become the Early Learning Profile: a plain-language picture of how your child engages with learning — strengths to build on and the areas where the right support will make the most difference. It comes with practical playbooks, so the insight turns into what actually happens at home and in lessons.
The Profile is descriptive, never diagnostic. It describes what you have observed at one point in time; it does not measure ability, test for any condition, or attach a label to your child.

The profile that shapes the lessons
We choose your child’s tutor against the Profile — pace, patience and personality, not just subject knowledge. Every tutor is trained by our psychotherapist-led programme, reads the Profile before the first lesson, and works from its playbook every week after: building on the strengths it found and supporting the areas where your child needs it most.

The Profile is stage two. We start with a free parent consultation, 20–30 minutes about your child and whether we are the right fit; there is no obligation to proceed after the consultation. If we go ahead, you complete the questionnaire online — around seven minutes — before lessons begin, as the first piece of work we do together.
